Distances are by road from central Delhi. “Long weekend” means the place needs 3–4 days to be worth it. Train and bus lines come from Indian Railways timetables and the bus routes we track, and change from time to time.

Hill stations near Delhi

Cool air, pine and deodar, a view from the balcony. The Uttarakhand towns are the shortest overnight hop; Himachal is a longer bus ride but worth it.

Rivers and lakes

Rafting, ghats and lakeside walks. Rishikesh is the classic Friday-night escape; the lake towns of Kumaon and Rajasthan are slower.

Forts, palaces and old cities

The plains are at their best from October to March. Many sit on fast train routes from Delhi.

Spiritual weekends

Aartis, gurudwaras, temples and ashrams. Several are on fast or overnight train routes, which makes them easy to fit around work.

Snow on a weekend

Snow is never guaranteed. These are the places that most often get it; check the forecast on the trip page before you go.

Wildlife and national parks

Safari permits are limited, so book early. Most parks close for part of the monsoon.

Want it planned around your work week?

Pick your dates and Tavora shows where you can reach after work on Friday and be back from in time for Monday: the train, bus, flight or cab, where you'd stay, every day planned, and one all-in price per person for the whole trip. We check it live within minutes, send one secure payment link for the whole trip, then book your trains (as RailRoute, an IRCTC-authorised agent), buses or flights, stay and cabs. Tickets are issued after you pay and we confirm the seats; waitlisted trains aren't sold, and anything we can't confirm is refunded in full.

Questions people ask

How far can I go from Delhi on a normal weekend?

Further than you might think, because an overnight train or bus does the distance while you sleep. Leaving on Friday evening after work and back by Sunday night or Monday morning, we plan 66 of our 86 places as Friday-to-Sunday trips, as far as Varanasi (about 883 km by road). The closest are Garhmukteshwar (114 km), Neemrana (141 km), Vrindavan (164 km), Alwar (173 km), Mathura (175 km). 18 places are within 300 km by road.

When is the best time for a hill-station weekend from Delhi?

For most hill towns: March to June and October to December. 40 of the 46 hill places we plan are best avoided in July and August, when monsoon rain can close hill roads. For snow, January and February are the usual months, and it's never guaranteed. The plains (Agra, Jaipur, Amritsar, Varanasi) are best from October to March.

What's the cheapest way to take a weekend trip from Delhi?

An overnight sleeper train or bus, which also saves you a night's hotel. The lowest bus fares we have seen from Delhi: Rishikesh ₹290, Agra ₹199, Manali ₹600, Jaipur ₹275, Amritsar ₹379 per seat (fares move with dates and demand). Pick the Budget option on Tavora and we plan sleeper class or Volvo/sleeper buses and simple stays, and show you one per-person price.

What does the Tavora price include?

Your travel both ways (the train, bus or flight fare at actuals plus a small booking service charge; we book it for you), your stay, local transport at the destination, any experience you choose to add, and a visible booking fee, shown as one figure per person for the whole trip, with anything you pay there shown apart. Food, entry tickets and shopping aren't included unless the trip says so. Until we confirm, prices are labelled as estimates.

How do I pay, and what if something can't be booked?

The organiser requests the trip with every traveller's details. We run a live check within minutes and send a secure payment link for the whole trip for the group (train, bus or flight, stay, cabs, getting around). Once it's paid, we book it all: trains as RailRoute, an IRCTC-authorised agent. Tickets are issued after we confirm the seats; waitlisted trains aren't sold, and flight and bus fares can change until we book. Anything we can't confirm is refunded in full.
