Kasol is the weekend people from Delhi ask about most, and the one with the least obvious logistics. There's no train that helps, the airport is small, and the drive is long. The answer is the overnight bus, done right.

Getting there: the overnight bus

Buses from Delhi to Kasol take about 10 h 40 min on a typical service, and 8 h 35 min on the fastest. At our last check, fares started from ₹699. Leave on Friday evening and you'll be in the Parvati valley on Saturday morning.

Why not the train? The nearest railhead is Joginder Nagar, about 50 km away, and it has no direct train from Delhi. The nearest airport is Kullu (Bhuntar), about 21 km from Kasol, if your budget runs to flying.

When to go

From our climate data for Kasol:

  • March to June: 3–27°C across the season, the valley green, Tosh and Chalal easy to walk.
  • September to November: 4–25°C and the clearest skies. October has about 5 rainy days.
  • December to February: nights around 0°C and a couple of snow days in January. Beautiful, but cold, and some cafés close.
  • July and August: about 24 rainy days a month and landslide risk on the road. I'd skip it.

Saturday: Chalal and Manikaran

Get some rest, then cross the footbridge and walk the riverside trail to Chalal village, about 30 minutes. Lunch at a Kasol café.

In the afternoon, go to Manikaran Sahib, about 4 km away: the gurdwara's langar, the Ram temple and the hot springs. Spend the evening on the riverbank cafés.

Sunday: walk up to Tosh

Start at 8:30 and walk up to Tosh village, about an hour from Barshaini, for views up the Tosh glacier valley. Have lunch in Tosh, walk back down, and be in Kasol by mid-afternoon to collect your bags before the bus home.

Make it a long weekend

With an extra day, add the Kheerganga trek from Barshaini, or a night at a riverside camp. Manali and Kullu are both close enough (about 28 km and 20 km away) to combine.

Prices and buses for your dates are on the Kasol weekend guide.

I build Tavora and RailRoute. RailRoute started with Indian Railways data: which trains run on time, which routes actually work. Tavora uses it to plan weekends out of Delhi end to end. Here I write about leaving on a Friday night and being back for Monday.
